Sunrisers Hyderabad allrounder Abhishek Sharma has copped heavy punishment from the BCCI after being found guilty of breaching IPL 2026 Code Of Conduct during his team’s big win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday night. Abhishek has been handed a financial penalty that will require him to cough up 25 per cent of his match fee and also accumulated a demerit point.
The match referee deemed that the big-hitting opening batter, whose 21-ball 48 played a key role in SRH racking up a mammoth match-winning total of 226/8 in 20 overs, breached Article 2.3 which he has admitted to.
The Article 2.3 of IPL Code of Conduct “covers the use of words commonly known and understood to be offensive, obscene and/or profane (in any language) and which can be heard by the spectators and/or the viewing public whether by way of the stump-microphone or otherwise. This conduct may include, for example, swearing in frustration at one’s own play or fortune"
Abhishek gave SRH a rollicking start after KKR opted to bowl first and teaming up with fellow opener Travis Head, added 82 runs in 5.3 overs before Kartik Tyagi broke the partnership with the scalp of the Australian on 46.
Abhishek struck four fours and as many sixes before becoming Blessing Muzarabani’s victim. Heinrich Klassen built on the brilliant start and smacked a quickfire half-century with allrounder Nitish Reddy also returning to form, hitting 24-ball 39.
KKR opener Finn Allen gave them a blazing start, clattering 24 runs in the very first over, bowled by David Payne. However, SRH bowlers bounced back with veteran Jaydev Unadkat taking 3/21 to limit KKR to 161-all out in 16 overs.
With the win, SRH have opened their account in the ongoing season after losing their tournament opener to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru last week. SRH have climbed up to the sixth spot while KKR, after two defeats in a row, are 9th.
