The government is engaging with Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) over several incidents of its AI chatbot, Grok, using Hindi slang and abusive language while giving responses to users. The Information and Technology Ministry has expressed concerns with X over the use of such provocative language and will look into the factors leading to it.

Developed by xAI, an artificial intelligence company founded by tech titan Elon Musk in 2023, Grok was designed as an alternative to mainstream AI models like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

"We are talking to them (X) to find out why it is happening and what the issues are. They are engaging with us," government sources said.

Grok, which is embedded on X as a feature, has grabbed the attention of Indian social media users over its responses in unfiltered language and slang when provoked.

The issue came to light after an X user's post on his interaction with Grok recently went viral. The user asked the AI chatbot about the "10 best mutuals". As the chatbot failed to give a response immediately, the user responded with harsh words.

However, Grok stunned the user with an unfiltered slur-loaded response, and asked the person to "chill kar", which translates to calm down.

Recently, an AI researcher, Riley Goodside, shared a clip of Grok's response in "unhinged" mode. On repeatedly interrupting the AI chatbot, Grok simulated a human scream, insulted him, and ended the interaction.

The chatbot's open-ended approach, allowing uncensored AI interactions, is a departure from other AI developers like ChatGPT. Most AI chatbots are designed to avoid discussions on controversial topics.
