A district officer in Bihar's Madhepura has been accused of physical assault after a video went viral showing him chasing and beating badminton players at an indoor stadium after they allegedly refused to play with him.

Additional District Magistrate Shishir Kumar Mishra rejected the allegations, saying they were baseless and unfounded. But on Monday, District Magistrate Taranjot Singh ordered a probe into the incident that occurred in the BP Mandal Indoor Stadium near his residence.

The video shows two players on the badminton court playing a game. Suddenly, Mishra can be seen chasing a third player and throwing a racket at the latter, while continuing to run after him until they exited the court.

According to information, Mishra reached the badminton court and asked the players who were already practicing to play a match with him. The players, however, refused, saying they were tired from hours of practicing.

But after being continuously pressured by the officer and some other people who accompanied him, the players finally agreed to a match.

During the match, Mishra got angry when one of the players hit the wrong shot. As a result, the officer started beating him with a racket and chased him.

Another player who tried to intervene, was also thrashed by the officer, resulting in injuries to his neck and hand.

Besides physically assaulting the players, Mishra also broke a racket and threatened the players of consequences if they practiced in the stadium again.

Speaking to reporters, District Magistrate Taranjot Singh said he had ordered a probe and requested authorities to submit a detailed report.

"Based on the findings of the report, we will take the necessary action," he added.
