The final Special Intensive Revision (SIR) for Tamil Nadu has been released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, and according to the list, the names of more than 74 lakh voters have been dropped from the rolls.
Initially there were 6,41,14,587 voters enrolled in the electoral roll. But after SIR, the number of total electoral came down to 5,67,07,380.
Total Voters in the State
As per the final electoral roll published on February 23, 2026, Tamil Nadu has a total of 5,67,07,380 voters. Of these, 2,77,38,925 are male voters, 2,89,60,838 are female voters and 7,617 are registered under the third gender category, with women voters continuing to outnumber men in the state.
The electoral roll also highlights the demographic profile of voters in the state. Around 12.51 lakh electors fall in the 18–19 age group, reflecting a significant number of young first-time voters. Additionally, 4.63 lakh voters are registered as persons with disabilities, while nearly 3.99 lakh electors are senior citizens aged above 85 years.
What Changed During the Revision?
Before the revision, over 6.41 crore voters were enrolled. After house-to-house verification and scrutiny:
•27.53 lakh new eligible voters were added.
•4.23 lakh ineligible names were removed.
The final roll was prepared after addressing claims and objections received between December 19, 2025 and January 30, 2026.
Constituencies With Highest And Lowest Voters
The constituency with the highest number of voters is Sholinganallur (Chengalpattu district) with over 5.36 lakh electors.
The lowest number of voters is in Harbour constituency (Chennai district) with around 1.16 lakh voters. The second lowest is Egmore (Chennai) with approximately 1.34 lakh electors.
District-Wise Voter Strength
Among districts, Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu have some of the highest voter populations.
The overall district-wise data shows that voter distribution remains strong across urban as well as rural districts, reflecting wide participation across the state.
