The Centre has extended the deadline for the State Information Reports (SIR) by seven days for all 12 states, following repeated demands from opposition parties seeking more time to complete the crucial process.
Officials confirmed that the decision was taken in view of delays reported from several states, where administrative and logistical challenges had slowed progress, according to News18 Rajasthan.
As per reports, draft list will be released on December 16.
The extension is being described as a “significant intervention", aimed at ensuring that states are able to submit accurate and complete records without compromising procedural requirements.
Opposition leaders had earlier raised concerns that the previous timeline was unrealistic and risked undermining the integrity of the process.
