Sanjay Singh says liquor policy accused made poll candidate by BJP ally

JJ News Desk

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Friday said an accused in the Delhi liquor policy case was given a Lok Sabha ticket by BJP's ally TDP in Andhra Pradesh. In his first press conference after being released on bail in the Delhi liquor policy case, Singh showed a picture of Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, who has been fielded by the TDP from Ongole, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The man who has been made liquor scam accused, what is PM Modi doing with him? He is now a TDP (Lok Sabha) candidate in Andhra Pradesh. Reddy is using PM Modi's photo to seek votes," Singh said.

The senior AAP leader, who walked out of Tihar jail on Wednesday, said the senior leadership of the BJP was involved in a "big conspiracy" to put Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal behind bars. "This liquor scam has been done by BJP. The senior leaders of BJP are involved in this," Singh said.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in the case on March 21, with the ED calling him the "kingpin of the liquor policy scam". Kejriwal has been sent to judicial custody till April 15.

Sanjay Singh said Magunta Reddy was raided on September 16, 2022, in the liquor policy case. Reddy was then with the YSRCP. Singh claimed that when Reddy didn't give any statement against Kejriwal, his son Raghava Reddy was arrested in February 2023.

Both Magunta Reddy and his son Raghava, along with other YSRCP leaders, joined the TDP on March 16. Raghava Reddy then turned an approver in the excise policy case.

"Magunta Reddy gave three statements, and his son Raghava Magunta gave seven statements. On September 16, when he (Magunta Reddy) was first asked by the ED whether he knew Arvind Kejriwal, he told the truth and said that he met Kejriwal in the matter of charitable trust land. But after that, his son was arrested and after five months of keeping him in jail, his father changed his statement," the AAP leader said.

Putting out the sequence of events while showing a photo of PM Modi with Magunta Reddy, Singh said, "From February 10 to July 16, seven statements of Raghava Magunta were taken. In six of the seven statements, he does not say anything against Arvind Kejriwal, but in the seventh statement, he becomes a part of the conspiracy and gives a statement against Arvind Kejriwal. After five months of torture, he changed his statement and stood against Arvind Kejriwal.''
