Pakistani singer and celebrated Sufi vocalist Abida Parveen’s Instagram account has been blocked in India. This comes amid similar restrictions on other notable Pakistani artistes such as Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, and Fawad Khan after the Pahalgam terror attacks.

The veteran singer’s interpretations of Sufi poetry have crossed borders, deeply touching audiences in India. She has crooned several classics, like ‘Tu Jhoom,’ ‘Main Naraye Mastana,’ ‘Pardadari,’, ‘Chaap Tilak’ and ‘Aaqa,’ among others.

If you try to open Abida Parveen’s Instagram profile, the message reads, “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

This action reflects the Indian government’s ongoing policy of blocking Pakistani artistes’ content. Earlier, the Instagram profiles of Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Sajal Aly, Ali Zafar, Ayeza Khan, Sanam Saeed, Maya Ali, and Iqra Aziz Hussain were restricted, followed by Fawad Khan, singers Atif Aslam, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and, most recently, Momina Mustehsan.

This action comes in the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 in the popular Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, where a few terrorists launched an open fire on tourists, killing 26, including a Nepali citizen. The terror act has left the entire nation mourning the lives of innocent individuals who simply wanted to make memories for a lifetime with their friends and family members.
