Nitish Kumar Boosts Bihar's Social Security Pension to Rs 1,100 Ahead of Elections

Under the revised scheme, senior citizens and persons with disabilities will now receive Rs 1100 per month, up from the earlier amount of Rs 400.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced a major increase in the state’s social security pension scheme. Under the revised scheme, senior citizens and persons with disabilities will now receive Rs 1100 per month, up from the earlier amount of Rs 400.

Nitish Kumar announced the decision on X, stating that the increased pension amount will be disbursed starting from July. This decision is expected to bring relief to over 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries across the state.

“I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, widowed women, elderly and disabled people will now get a pension of Rs. 1100 instead of Rs. 400 every month. All beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries,” Nitish Kumar said in a post on X.

The government has also specified that the revised pension will be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on the 10th of every month. The scheme covers elderly citizens, people with disabilities, widows and other eligible individuals under Bihar’s social welfare umbrella.

Meanwhile, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, while reacting to the announcement made by CM Nitish Kumar, said, "Today is a historic day as the CM has increased the pensions for widows, the elderly, and the specially abled. I thank the CM for this."

Bihar Assembly election scheduled to be held in the state in October-November this year.
