BMC Election Result 2026: The counting of votes for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections began at 10 AM across 23 designated centres in Mumbai. Polling across all 227 civic wards was held on Thursday, January 15.
The BMC has deployed a total of 2,299 officers and employees for the counting process, including 759 supervisors, 770 assistants, and 770 Class IV staff. All personnel have undergone pre-training to ensure a smooth and orderly counting exercise. Results will be announced once the counting is completed.
According to exit poll projections, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is poised to emerge as the single largest bloc. A survey by JVC predicts as many as 138 seats for the alliance, while The Sakal exit poll estimates Mahayuti winning around 119 seats—well above the majority mark.
The Shiv Sena (UBT)-led alliance is also expected to put up a significant fight. The Sakal projects the bloc securing 75 seats, while JVC estimates a comparatively lower tally of 59 seats.
This election has drawn particular attention due to a major political realignment. After nearly two decades of estrangement, cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray have joined hands for the 2026 BMC polls. Their parties—Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)—have entered into a seat-sharing arrangement to challenge rival alliances. Under the agreement, Shiv Sena (UBT) is contesting around 160 wards, while the MNS has fielded candidates in approximately 53 wards.
