Mukhtar Ansari's jailed son seeks urgent court hearing to attend father's funeral

JJ News Desk

Mukhtar Ansari's son, Abbas Ansari, who is currently lodged in Kasganj jail, has approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to attend his father's funeral. Abbas Ansari is the current MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Mau constituency where Mukhtar Ansari was the legislator for five terms.

Since today is a holiday at the top court due to Good Friday, Abbas Ansari's lawyer has contacted the vacation officer of the Supreme Court demanding an urgent hearing.

Mukhtar Ansari's family is likely to conduct his last rites on Saturday morning. His family said they have made the preparations to conduct his funeral on Saturday after morning prayers and his body is being transported from Banda to Ghazipur.

The gangster-politician, who was lodged in Banda district jail, died of cardiac arrest in Uttar Pradesh's Banda on Thursday.

Mukhtar Ansari's son Umar Ansari claimed that his father was subjected to "slow poisoning" at Banda jail. Authorities have denied the charges and his autopsy was conducted on Friday.

Days before his death, Mukhtar Ansari had approached the Barabanki court saying he was served food laced with poison inside the prison.
