Justice K Vinod Chandran was sworn in as a Judge of the Supreme Court today. Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administered the oath to Justice Vinod Chandran.

It was on Tuesday (January 14) that the Central Government notified the appointment of Justice Vinod Chandran, who was the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as a Supreme Court Judge, following a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium last week.

Justice Vinod Chandran was appointed as a Judge of the Kerala High Court in November 2011. He was elevated as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna on 29th March 2023.

While recommending his name, the Collegium has taken into consideration the fact that there is no representation on the Bench of the Supreme Court from the High Court of Kerala. It may be noted that with the retirement of Justice CT Ravikumar this month, there is no judge from Kerala at the Supreme Court.

The Collegium led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna noted that during his long tenure as a judge, Justice Vinod Chandran "has acquired significant experience in diverse fields of law."

At the Supreme Court, Justice Chandran will have a term till April 25, 2028.
