Delhi Police has launched a joint operation to arrest Okhla AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan after a case was registered against him for allegedly obstructing a police operation to arrest an accused in a murder case. Police said the incident, which happened in Jamia Nagar, helped the accused escape police custody.

Teams from Jamia Nagar police station, South East District and Crime Branch are conducting raids to arrest the AAP MLA. Sources said that Amanatullah Khan might approach the Delhi High Court for anticipatory bail.

Sources said the Delhi Police Crime Branch had launched an operation in Jamia to detain Shahbaz Khan, who was facing an attempt-to-murder charge. As officers took him into custody, Amanatullah Khan intervened, questioning the legitimacy of the arrest and insisting that the individual was not a criminal.

The confrontation quickly escalated into a heated exchange between the AAP legislator and the Crime Branch team. Amid the chaos, Shahbaz Khan managed to flee and has been absconding ever since.

Police sources stated that Khan and his supporters obstructed the process of arrest, delaying the operation and ultimately allowing the suspect to escape. Following the incident, the Crime Branch has filed a complaint. Khan has been booked on eight counts, including charges of organised crime.

Anticipating tension in the area, Delhi Police has deployed personnel in the area and outside the residence of the AAP MLA.

Notably, Amanatullah Khan won the Okhla Assembly seat for the third consecutive time after defeating BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary.
