An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organisers of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP Mamata Banerjee faction) over alleged violation of a Calcutta High Court order during the student wing’s foundation day rally in Kolkata. The complaint said that Mamata Banerjee, along with TMCP organisers, entered into a “criminal conspiracy” and that supporters were provoked during the programme held on August 28.
The case was registered at Hastings Police Station on August 28 under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR was based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya.
According to the complaint, the High Court had permitted the foundation day programme on one flank of Cathedral Road. However, the police alleged that TMC workers and supporters also occupied the other flank, causing an obstruction to vehicular movement.
The police further said that the crowd pushed aside barricades and jostled with personnel deployed to maintain law and order, leading to a chaotic situation on Cathedral Road. The complaint also alleged that the programme continued beyond the time permitted by the High Court.
Hundreds of TMC workers had gathered at Cathedral Road for the TMCP foundation day event, where Mamata Banerjee addressed the gathering.
The case has been registered as Hastings Police Station Case No. 112 dated August 28, 2026. The allegations in the FIR are yet to be established in court.
