The Delhi Police on Saturday recovered 10 boxes containing nearly 500 live cartridges from a motorcyclist who was stopped during a routine check at a traffic picket in West Delhi on Saturday.

A senior police officer said the incident took place in Moti Nagar on Saturday afternoon when two traffic inspectors were carrying out random inspections and stopped the two-wheeler approaching the police picket.

“On being signalled to stop, the rider slowed down for a brief second but suddenly started speeding, sensing trouble, and fled the spot. A backpack fell off his bike which contained the said cartridges… He was wearing a helmet, however, his motorcycle numberplate is being traced,” said an officer.

“A case under the Arms Act has been lodged and efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused person,” said Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
