The Delhi Police has registered a case over an AI video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother uploaded by Congress, which triggered an uproar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) days after a heated row over her alleged insult at an election campaign in Bihar.

The case was registered at North Avenue Police Station, Delhi, based on the complaint filed by the BJP. The FIR named the Congress party and the Congress IT Cell as the main accused.

The Bihar Congress on September 10 posted an AI-generated video of what appears to be look-alikes of Prime Minister Modi and his mother, the late Heeraben. The BJP accused the Congress of crossing all limits with the “disgusting" video, and called it an insult to all mothers and sisters of the country.

What Made The Video Controversial?

The video, shared without naming anyone, carried a caption in Hindi that translates to: “‘Ma’ appears in Sahab’s dreams. Watch the interesting dialogue."

In the video, a character resembling PM Modi is seen preparing for bed, saying: “I’m done with today’s ‘vote chori’, let’s get a good night’s sleep now." s he sleeps, a woman resembling his mother appears in his dream and scolds him for using her name for political gain. The woman then asks, “How far are you willing to fall when it comes to politics?" which startles the character awake.

This video was posted days after abusive slogans targeting PM Modi’s mother were reportedly chanted from a Congress-RJD stage during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ rally in Darbhanga. PM Modi himself condemned the remarks, saying the people of Bihar will never forgive the Congress and RJD.

BJP Lashes Out Over AI Video

The official BJP Twitter handle also slammed the AI video ad campaign, saying: “The first Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi’s late mother was abused from the Congress-RJD platform. Now, a video of their mother is being made to insult her. Have some shame, Congress people, how much lower will you stoop?"

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey described the video as reflecting a “deplorable mindset," adding, “Leave aside the Prime Minister’s mother. A man from a poor village background becoming Prime Minister may be against Western culture, but here he has been insulted throughout his life — once branded a merchant of death, and now subjected to the lowest depths of abuse."

The Congress defended the video, saying it was about a parent educating her child. However, the Bihar Congress unit initiated an internal inquiry into the controversial video.
