The Congress in Kerala on Tuesday released a set of audio clips, alleging that CPI(M) cadres had threatened Aneesh George, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) from Kannur who died by suicide.

Kannur DCC president Martin George made the clips public, claiming they showed the mental pressure Aneesh was under while distributing SIR forms.

In the clip, Aneesh is heard telling a Congress Booth Level Agent (BLA): “They are creating trouble for me. They asked why I am taking you along.”

He also says, “They will make it difficult for me this is their area, you know that.” At no point in the clips are either of them heard taking CPI(M)’s name.

The BLA is heard advising Aneesh to complain to his superiors, saying he had not personally been threatened but that the issues were being raised only with Aneesh. The clip ends with the BLA telling him he would call back in five minutes.

Releasing the audio, Martin George claimed that Aneesh faced pressure from CPI(M) workers in the area. “That area is a CPI(M) centre. Congress and UDF are asking for a detailed inquiry. It is a serious issue,” he said.

The BJP has also alleged that the BLO died due to pressure from CPI(M). Authorities have not confirmed any political involvement so far.
