BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri took a fresh jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday and said that her parents backed terrorist Afzal Guru.

Addressing an election rally in the capital, Bidhuri, who is the BJP's candidate from Kalkaji for the Delhi Assembly elections, claimed that Atishi's parents wrote to the then President to stop the execution of Afzal Guru.

The allegations come almost two weeks before the Delhi Assembly polls scheduled to be held on February 5. The results for the polls will be announced on February 8.

Bidhuri, a former BJP MP, claimed that the Chief Minister's parents had an "anti-India mentality" and accused them of protecting the perpetrators of the Parliament attack.

"Atishi's parents were writing letters so that Afzal Guru was not hanged. Atishi's mother organised a condolence meeting for Afzal Guru," Bidhuri said.

Notably, this is not the first time that the BJP leader has launched an attack on Atishi, who has been pitted against him from the Kalkaji constituency.

Bidhuri had earlier remarked that Atishi is roaming the city "like a hirni (deer)". He said that Atishi has not met people in the last four years and is now roaming "like a hirni (deer)" to get votes.

He had also remarked that Atishi had "changed her father". A row erupted after Bidhuri accused Atishi of altering her identity for political gain.

The Chief Minister has also claimed that Bidhuri's nephew intimidated and assaulted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers in the Kalkaji constituency. In a letter to an Election Commission officer, Atishi alleged that Bidhuri’s nephew engaged in hooliganism to influence the ongoing electoral process.
