Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced widespread disruptions on Monday, with thousands of users across multiple countries reporting problems accessing the service.

The outage appeared to affect users in several regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom and India, triggering a surge in complaints on social media and outage-tracking websites.

Thousands report problems

According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, reports of service disruptions climbed sharply, reaching around 27,000 complaints at the peak of the outage.

The data, which is based on user-submitted reports, indicated that many users were unable to access the platform normally or encountered connectivity issues while attempting to load content.

Desktop users most affected

A significant share of complaints appeared to be linked to the desktop version of X.

Users reported difficulties accessing the platform through web browsers, with some experiencing loading failures, error messages and connection problems.

The mobile application appeared to remain functional for some users, although others also reported intermittent disruptions.

Outage hits multiple countries

The disruption was reported across several major markets, including the US, UK and India, suggesting that the issue was not limited to a specific region or internet service provider.

Users took to alternative social media platforms to share screenshots and report problems accessing timelines, posts and account features.

Cause remains unclear

The reason behind the outage was not immediately known.

X had not issued an official statement on the disruption at the time of reporting, and the company did not immediately respond to media requests seeking comment on the incident.
