Workers’ Protest Over Pay Hike Turns Violent In Noida; Stones Pelted, Vehicles Damaged

Noida Phase 2 sees violent salary protest by company employees, vehicles vandalised and stones pelted, police use tear gas and heavy deployment, situation being controlled

Violence broke out in Phase 2 of Noida in Uttar Pradesh after workers gathered to protest over their demands for a salary increase.

During the protest, vehicles and properties were vandalised, and stones were thrown, leading to chaos in the area. Police rushed to the spot and deployed a heavy force to control the situation. Tear gas was used to disperse the crowd.

The protesting workers had raised several demands, including bonus payments, weekly offs, overtime pay, and timely salaries. They also called for the formation of a sexual harassment committee, a grievance cell, and the issuance of salary slips.

Meeting held a day before

A day before the violence, the Noida District Magistrate had held an important meeting at the Noida Authority to maintain industrial peace.

Senior officials, including the Principal Secretary (Labour) and the Labour Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, joined the meeting virtually. Discussions focused on protecting workers’ interests, double payment for overtime, bonus, weekly holidays and workplace safety.

Authorities said efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under control. Further details are awaited.
