A 32-year-old woman was allegedly recorded secretly in a restroom at Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru during a Women’s Throwball and Cricket (WTC) tournament. The woman has claimed that she was being blackmailed by an unknown individual who is demanding money and private video calls with her.
The incident, according to the victim from Yelahanka, occurred on the second day of the tournament held from February 6 to 8. She approached the Cyber Crime police on February 13 to file a formal complaint. The alleged recording reportedly took place while she was using the women’s restroom at the venue.
The complainant stated that the perpetrator initially contacted her friend on Instagram, mistakenly believing the account belonged to the victim. Once her friend found out about the videos and images, she immediately informed the victim.
Thereafter, the suspect began threatening the woman, insisting on private video calls and cash payments, and warning that additional private content would be released online if his demands were not met.
It remains unclear whether the victim or her friend was the actual target, as the blackmail extended to the friend as well. Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard and authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
Last year, a Bengaluru woman revealed on social media that she was secretly filmed in the restroom of a popular eatery in Koramangala on April 25. She noticed a phone hidden in a gap in the wall while using the toilet, realizing she was being recorded. Despite alerting the store manager, she received no support and called the police.
CCTV footage identified the culprit who confessed the crime and claimed to have deleted the videos. The woman also alleged that restaurant staff, including the regional director, tried to dissuade her from taking action. The eatery, Anand Sweets and Savouries, later issued a statement condemning the incident and confirmed full cooperation with authorities, noting the accused technician had accessed the restroom via scaffolding.
