Woman Reaches Friend's Wedding Reception Only To Learn She Is Not Invited

JJ News Desk

Among the desi diaspora, gatecrashing a wedding that you are not invited to silently and gorging on the delicacies has been part of jokes for decades. Many have claimed to have done it and it is often depicted in films and other media as well. But can you fathom driving for 8 hours to attend a friend’s wedding only to find that you have not been invited to the reception? Well, such bizarre oddities do happen in life and a Reddit user who suffered the brunt of it shared the experience on the platform. The post details how she faced embarrassment at the venue and how she had her sweet revenge as well.

The user said that the incident happened when she was in her 20s and it was the first time that she had been invited to a wedding outside the family. She added that she got to the B&B early and the lady of the house even drove her to the church where the wedding would take place. After a fabulous wedding ceremony, she got on the transport with other guests to the reception area. But that was when she was in for a rude shock.

While checking the names on the tables reserved for the guests, the user, along with another colleague who had accompanied her, were unable to find their names anywhere. When the master of ceremonies approached and requested to see their invitations, he firmly informed her that they were only invited to the church and the evening beverages and that they must leave. The invite stated clearly in very small print that it was not for the meal. The user had not seen the print carefully, which led her to this embarrassment.

The woman and her colleague had to leave immediately and pay and eat their dinner in the B&B where they were put up.
