A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men in a moving car in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday. The two accused, identified as Rahul Das and Furqan, were arrested by the police within 24 hours of the survivor lodging a complaint.

According to police, the woman, employed in the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIDCUL) industrial area of Udham Singh Nagar, said that the accused intercepted her while she was on her way to work and offered her a lift.

She alleged that instead of taking her to her workplace, the men raped her inside the moving vehicle and later dropped her near her office before fleeing the scene.

District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said a case was registered immediately after the complaint was received and an investigation was launched without delay. The accused have been identified as Rahul Das and Furqan.

“The police have also recovered a car used in the incident from Rahul Das’ possession, and both accused have been sent to jail after being produced before the court,” Mishra said.

Officials said the arrests were made on the basis of the survivor’s statement and supporting technical evidence collected during the preliminary investigation. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police added that the investigation is ongoing, with forensic reports and other evidence awaited to further strengthen the case.
