A woman member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), a Maoist group, carrying a reward of Rs 25 lakh, was killed in an encounter in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, along with several other Maoists. The woman, identified as Renuka alias Banu, was killed in a continuous firing between Maoists and security forces since 9 am today.
The operation was led by a team of security forces under District Reserve Guard (DRG) who were on an anti-Maoist operation in the Chhattisgarh-Karnataka state border areas of Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
They were assisted by the Geedam police station in the district limits, Bhairamgarh police station of Bijapur district of Karnataka, and police personnel from the border villages of Nelgoda, Akeli and Belnar in Telangana.
According to sources, Banu was in-charge of the Naxal’s media team and was a resident of Telangana’s Warangal district. Source say Banu’s body, along with an INSAS rifle, other arms and ammunition, and other items of daily use were recovered from the encounter site. So far in 2025, 119 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters in the Bastar range.
