Visibility reduced in Delhi as thick fog engulfs capital, several trains delayed

Residents of Delhi on Tuesday woke up to dense fog and low visibility amidst continued cold conditions. The situation was the same in several cities of the neighbouring states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

In a statement on microblogging site X, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, "Very dense fog in isolated pockets of northwest Rajasthan; dense fog in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh; moderate fog in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and West UP and shallow fog in isolated pockets of Delhi".

Several parts of Delhi, including Janpath Road, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg and Nirankari Colony were under a thick blanket of fog on Tuesday morning.

The minimum temperature in the national capital was expected to hover at around 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was expected to remain at around 22 degrees Celsius, according to the press statement by the IMD.

Flight operations remained affected due to the fog.

Train operations were also hit owing to the reduced visibility in the national capital.

Train number 22221, Mumbai Rajdhani, was running late by more than an hour at the time of writing this news. Similarly, train number 22691, Banglore Rajdhani, was running late by more than two hours. Train number 12953, August Kranti Rajdhani Express, was also running late.
