“Victory of democracy" is what Sonam Wangchuk said in his first reaction after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as education minister. Taking to X, Wangchuk called it a victory of peace, patience and perseverance.
“IT’S A VICTORY OF DEMOCRACY. direct democracy… straight from the streets. It’s a victory of peace, patience & persévérance," he wrote.
“Congratulations, CJP, Gen Z of the nation; and thank you, all citizens for shedding fear and the fear of fear and rising up from every corner of the nation," he added.
His reaction came soon after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as education minister. Wangchuk, who had been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike demanding Pradhan’s resignation and accountability from the government over the paper leak cases, ended his hunger strike late at night on Thursday.
He extended his congratulations to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and the nation’s youth, expressing gratitude to citizens for casting aside fear and standing up across the country.
Reacting to Pradhan’s resignation, Gitanjali J. Angmo said if “anyone has shown what it means for India to be a Vishwaguru, it is our Gen Z."
The main demand of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been spearheading a large-scale demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for over a month, was Pradhan’s resignation.
In his statement, Pradhan highlighted his four-decade commitment to educational reforms, educators, and students, whilst extending his thanks to Prime Minister Modi for the opportunity to serve as the Education Minister.
He acknowledged the lapses during the NEET-UG exam held on May 3, maintaining that he had not evaded accountability during the crisis. “My resolve was that no deserving student should suffer because of examination mafias and no student should face injustice," he stated.
Pradhan further noted that certain individuals in positions of responsibility had tried to impede progress by misguiding the student community. “The developments of the last 10 days have saddened me. This is not a matter of personal prestige for me. India’s youth power is the true strength of this country," he said.
