A New Jersey-based driver was shocked to receive her Uber Eats delivery when she discovered her food order wasn’t the burrito she expected – it was an ounce of marijuana wrapped in foil.

The incident took place in Washington Township, Camden County, as reported by New York Post (NYP). Local Police is currently investigating the matter.

As per the report, the delivery partner, unaware of the illicit package, had picked up the order on Friday night in Lindenwold. It appeared to contain a standard meal of a burrito, soup, and a water bottle.

However, as she drove toward her destination in Glassboro, an unmistakable odour caught her attention.

“She believed something didn’t smell right with her delivery package. She thought it smelled like marijuana,” Washington Township Police Chief Patrick Gurcsik said in a statement, as reported by NYP.

Suspicious of the package’s contents, the driver pulled over an contacted the authorities. On inspection, officers discovered that the foil-wrapped item contained no meat, beans, or rice, but a large zip-closed bag filled with raw marijuana.

“There was no food in that burrito,” Chief Gurcsik said, adding, “It was an ounce of marijuana.”

Photographs released by the police revealed the drugs clumsily wrapped to mimic a burrito. Investigators suspect someone attempted to exploit Uber’s package delivery feature, a service strictly prohibited from transporting drugs, alcohol, or medication.

According to NYP, an Uber spokesperson described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and praised the driver for promptly alerting local authorities. They urged other drivers to report similar suspicious deliveries.
