An under-construction building collapsed in Delhi's Rohini Sector 16 on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a large-scale rescue operation amid fears that several people may be trapped beneath the debris.

According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received a call about the incident at approximately 4:20 pm. Four fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site, where firefighters and rescue personnel began search operations.

Preliminary reports indicate that some workers and residents may be trapped under the collapsed structure. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people affected or whether there have been any casualties.

Visuals from the scene showed rescue teams clearing large piles of debris as emergency responders searched for possible survivors. The area has been cordoned off to facilitate rescue efforts and prevent further accidents.

The collapse occurred during a period of heavy rainfall in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Recent rains have caused waterlogging, traffic disruptions and raised concerns about the safety of buildings under construction.

Civic authorities have previously advised developers and contractors to follow prescribed safety measures during the monsoon season, when heavy rainfall, water seepage and soil instability can increase structural risks at construction sites.

Rescue operations were continuing at the time of publication. Officials are expected to provide further information once the search is completed and the cause of the collapse is investigated.
