Days after Meghalaya honeymoon horror sent shock waves across the country, body of a 28-year-old man was recovered from an ice-cream freezer in neighbouring Tripura. The body was discovered from inside a trolley bag hidden in the freezer.
The victim has been identified as Sariful Islam, an electrician associated with the Agartala Smart City Mission project and a resident of Indranagar area in Agartala.
The body was recovered from Gandacherra market of Dhalai district, about 120 km from Agartala. After the matter came to light, police began a probe. Cops also explored the love triangle theory to get any significant lead in the case.
Police suspect that the killing was fallout of a complex love triangle involving Sariful, a woman, and the prime accused, identified as Dibakar Saha, a 28-year-old doctor.
It is learnt that the victim had a love affair within the woman who is also a cousin of Dibakar Saha.
So far six people, including the woman, doctor and his parents, have been arrested.
According to police, Saha had invited Sariful to the residence of one Joydeep Das, 20, at South Indranagar Kabarkhala area, on the evening of June 8, under the pretext of giving him a gift.
When the victim arrived, he was attacked by Dibakar and his two aides, identified as Animesh Yadav (21) and Nabanita Das (25). The electrician was strangled and his body was hidden inside a trolley bag purchased two days earlier.
The following morning, Dibakar’s parents – Dipak and Debika Saha – arrived in Agartala from Gandacherra and took away the trolley bag containing the body. The corpse was subsequently hidden inside an ice-cream freezer at their shop in Gandacherra market.
After the victim went missing, police launched a thorough investigation. The matter came to light after two days of intensive search by the police who subsequently arrested all six accused on Tuesday night and recovered the body on Wednesday afternoon.
All six arrested accused will be produced before a court on Thursday. Further, the cops have seized digital evidence, including mobile phone containing messages that confirmed the motive behind murder was linked to a love triangle involving all three key individuals.
