Telangana man kills girlfriend with axe after she leaves him for arranged marriage

The woman was with her sister when her boyfriend attacked her with an axe in Telangana's Nirmal district.

A man allegedly killed his girlfriend with an axe as she started avoiding him after her family planned for her arranged marriage. The woman's sister, who was with her during the attack, was also injured in the incident that took place in Khanapur town in Telangana's Nirmal district.

The woman, Alekhya, was coming with her sister from a tailoring institute around 1.30 pm on Thursday when her boyfriend, Jukanti Srikanth, attacked her with an axe.

Alekhya died on the spot while her sister sustained injuries. Srikanth fled the scene after the attack and is currently on the run.

The duo were in a relationship, but Alekhya had started avoiding Jukanti after her family planned for her arranged marriage.

A case has been registered. A search is on to trace the accused and further investigation is underway, police said.
