A stampede-like situation broke out during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s campaign rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur on Saturday, leading the actor-turned-politician to pause his speech temporarily as a number of attendees fainted amid severe overcrowding.
As the crowd grew increasingly dense, several party workers and children reportedly fainted due to the pressure of the gathering, prompting Vijay to halt his address and call for calm while urging his supporters to make way for emergency ambulances to reach those in need.
Water bottles were distributed to help those feeling unwell and medical teams were deployed promptly, with several individuals being transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
During the confusion, a nine-year-old girl was reported missing, compelling Vijay to appeal publicly for assistance from the police and request that his cadres assist in the search for the child.
The incident occurred while Vijay was delivering a speech targeting former DMK minister Senthil Balaji, during which he asserted that the political landscape in Tamil Nadu would witness a change in power within the next six months.
This rally was part of Vijay’s ongoing statewide campaign ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Authorities and event organisers were able to restore order following the incident, allowing the event to conclude without further disruptions.
