A 19-year-old woman from Tripura was physically assaulted by her live-in partner in Gurugram, leaving her critically injured and hospitalised at AIIMS Delhi. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Shivam (19), a resident of Delhi, and launched an investigation.

According to the police, the woman, a biotechnology student at the GD Goenka University in Gurugram, had been living with Shivam in accommodation in Sector 69 after they met in September 2025. The couple was reportedly discussing marriage, with talks initiated between the families.

Police said the assault came to light after the victim’s mother called the police, alleging that her daughter had been brutally beaten by her partner, who had begun doubting her character.

Responding officers reached the residence and took the accused into custody.

DCP (South) Hitesh Yadav said the survivor was initially admitted to a government hospital in Gurugram in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to AIIMS, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary investigation suggests the couple had an argument late at night that escalated into violence. Medical examination has confirmed multiple severe injuries on the victim’s body, police said.

Shivam has been booked and arrested, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and possible charges in the case.
