In a new development in the Delhi Red Fort blast probe, investigating authorities have discovered that Mirza Shadab Baig, accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts and the 2007 Gorakhpur blast case, is also an alumnus of Al Falah University.

Baig, alleged to be linked to the Indian Mujahideen network, completed his B.Tech from Al Falah in Faridabad in 2007, adding another name to the list of individuals with terror links who reportedly passed through the institution.

According to earlier probe findings, agencies had established Baig’s connection with Al-Falah during investigations into the Ahmedabad attacks. His name has resurfaced amid renewed scrutiny of the university following recent disclosures involving other accused individuals.

The reference to Al Falah University comes at a time when the Delhi Red Fort blast investigation remains in sharp focus. On November 10, an explosive-laden vehicle detonated near the historic monument, killing 15 people.

Baig hails from Baridi Calganj village in Azamgarh district and earlier lived with his family in the Raja Ka Qila locality of Azamgarh. He failed Class 9 and subsequently changed subjects within his section, later studying up to Class 11 with the revised combination.

He completed Class 12 from Children School near the Azamgarh railway station with PCM subjects, before going on to finish his B.Tech in Electronics Instrumentation from Al-Falah Engineering College in Faridabad, Haryana, in 2007.

Baig is accused of carrying out five blasts across the country and has been absconding for nearly two decades.

The Red Fort attack, which police say was carried out by Dr Umar Nabi, has since led to multiple arrests, the recovery of incriminating digital evidence and the unravelling of a broader radicalisation and planning network. Investigators are now examining all institutional and personal linkages of the accused as part of the ongoing probe.
