A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a person posing as a courier delivery boy in a posh society in Pune’s Kondhwa, officials said on Thursday.
The accused allegedly sprayed something on the woman’s face and then raped her, according to sources.
Two people have been detained in connection with the incident, and their questioning is underway, officials said.
The accused man entered the woman’s society at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday as a courier delivery boy. Even as the woman said that there was no courier for her, he insisted, saying, “A signature is required", sources said.
The police said that when the woman opened the safety door and went inside her home to get the pin for the courier, the man closed the door and allegedly raped her.
There were also reports that he sprayed something on her face before the sexual assault. However, this is being checked by the forensic experts.
After the sexual assault, he took a selfie using the woman’s phone and left a chilling message on it that read, “I’ll be back".
The police have registered a case, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
Zone 5 Pune City DCP, Rajkumar Shinde, said that the woman had been unconscious since 7:30 pm.
“Under the jurisdiction of Kondhwa PS of Pune City, an offence under the BNS sections 64, 77, and 351(2) has been registered. Yesterday, around 7:30 pm, a delivery boy with a bank envelope entered the flat of a woman. When she went inside her home to get the pin for the courier, he closed the door (and raped her)… A total of 10 teams, five of the crime branch and five zonal teams, are working on the case… The woman had been unconscious since 7:30 pm. Forensic experts were called on the spot to check (if something had been sprayed on her). A selfie was found in the woman’s phone. We are analysing it," Shinde said.
In a separate incident that took place in Pune earlier this week, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two motorbike-borne unidentified persons.
The incident took place on a highway at around 4.15 am on Monday in the Daund area, the police said.
According to the officials, the car in which the girl, along with three other women, halted on the stretch after the driver needed a tea break.
“As the driver felt sleepy, he halted the car near a tea stall. When the driver stepped out to answer nature’s call, two unidentified men approached the vehicle and threatened the occupants with sharp weapons and robbed the gold jewellery," a police official told news agency PTI.
“One of the accused then took the minor girl out of the car and sexually assaulted her," he added.
