Premanand Maharaj’s Comment on Youth and Purity Sparks Big Debate Online

Social media divided over spiritual leader’s remarks on relationships, lifestyle, and character of modern youth

What happened?

One of the most followed and popular spiritual leaders, Premanand Maharaj, has stirred controversy with his recent comments about the character of modern-day youth and why many relationships and marriages are falling apart. His remarks came during a sermon in response to a question about why love and arranged marriages seem to be failing more often nowadays.

He said, “How can relationships turn out well when the youth of today lack purity in character?” He then compared the habits of modern young people to the traditions followed in his village, especially with how women used to dress and behave with modesty. According to him, breakups and quickly moving on to someone else have become too common among young people today.

What exactly did he say?

Premanand Maharaj explained his point using a food analogy. He said that when someone gets used to eating restaurant food all the time, they lose interest in simple home-cooked meals. In the same way, he said, “If a girl gets into the habit of being with multiple men, she may not be able to fully accept one husband. Similarly, if a boy keeps thinking about different girls, he won’t stay satisfied with his wife. Because it has become a habit.”

He also blamed the widespread use of mobile phones and said that because of changing habits, it’s becoming very hard to find a good daughter-in-law or husband.

However, one particular statement sparked the most outrage. He said, “Out of 100 girls, maybe 2 or 4 still live a pure life and truly dedicate themselves to one man.” He added, “If someone has already been with four men, how can she become a true daughter-in-law? And if a boy has been with four girls, how can he become a true husband?”

These remarks came just days after another spiritual figure, Aniruddhacharya Maharaj, caused a stir with his own comments about live-in relationships.

How did people react?

The internet is now buzzing with arguments, reactions, and debates over what Premanand Maharaj said. Some social media users supported him, saying he was just speaking uncomfortable truths about modern lifestyles. One user wrote, “Premanand Maharaj is being unfairly criticised by Gen Z. They celebrated him when celebrities visited him, but didn’t care to understand what he really teaches.”

His supporters argued that his sermon was being taken out of context and that he was only trying to highlight how certain habits can damage long-term relationships.

On the other hand, many users slammed his comments, saying they were outdated and unfairly blamed women and young people for modern relationship issues. Critics pointed out that making such generalisations does more harm than good and ignores the complexities of real relationships.

Conclusion:

Premanand Maharaj’s statements have clearly touched a nerve, sparking a larger discussion about changing values, relationships, and the role of spiritual leaders in commenting on modern life. While some believe he’s speaking harsh truths, others see his views as outdated and problematic. As the debate continues online, one thing is certain: remarks about morality and modern youth always draw strong reactions and often, deep divisions.
