PM Modi speaks to Donald Trump for first time since US inauguration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump discussed bilateral relations during their telephonic conversation. This was PM Modi's first conversation with Trump since the US President began his second term in office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump on Monday in their first conversation since Trump began his second term in office. According to sources, both leaders discussed bilateral relations between India and the US during their telephonic conversation.

"Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership," PM Modi said in a post on X.

"We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security," he added.

The Prime Minister had earlier spoken to Trump just after he won the presidential elections on November 7. During the conversation, Trump had praised PM Modi, describing him as a magnificent man, adding that the whole world loved him.

Trump said that India is a magnificent country, and he considered PM Modi and India as true friends, sources said, adding that both leaders agreed to work together for world peace.

Notably, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar represented India at Trump's swearing-in ceremony on January 20 at the invitation of the US government and carried a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Trump.
