Patna Police on Sunday detained a suspect in connection to the murder of Gopal Khemka in Bihar when he arrived at the industrialist’s funeral. The suspect, identified as Roshan Kumar, a resident of Punpun in Patna, was detained after he was seen attending Khemka’s funeral on July 6.

According to police sources, Roshan is currently being interrogated for his possible role in the conspiracy behind the killing. Investigators have so far questioned nearly a dozen individuals in connection with the case.

Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman, was shot dead late on the night of July 4 by an unidentified assailant. The incident took place around 11:40 pm outside his residence in the Gandhi Maidan area, just as he was about to step out of his car.

Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was premeditated and involved multiple individuals. Apart from the shooter, two accomplices, believed to be spotters, played a role in tracking Khemka’s movements on the night of the incident.

According to the investigation, when Khemka left the Bankipur Club on the night of the murder, the first spotter alerted the shooter. The second spotter was positioned near Biskoman Tower in the Gandhi Maidan area.

The shooter was reportedly already stationed near Khemka’s residence, awaiting the final signal.

To trace the suspects’ movements, Patna police have reviewed CCTV footage from key locations including Bankipur Club, Gandhi Maidan, Buddha Colony and the Income Tax Golambar area.

While no official statement has been released, senior police officials confirm that raids are ongoing to apprehend the main shooter and other suspects involved in the conspiracy.

Khemka’s mortal remains were cremated at Gulbi Ghat in Patna on July 6, in the presence of a large gathering of local businessmen and industrialists who came to pay their final respects.

In the wake of the murder, several members of the business community in Bihar have raised serious concerns about their safety. Responding to the growing unease, the Bihar government on Sunday assured that all such concerns would be thoroughly examined and addressed.
