Pakistani model Roma Michael's bikini ramp walk triggers controversy. Who is she?

A video of Pakistani model Roma Michael walking the ramp in a bikini at the beauty pageant Miss Grand International 2024 went viral online but was deleted after she was slammed by several sections.

Roma Michael trended furiously on social media after reports suggested that she deleted the video from her account following tremendous backlash over her choice of outfit. Her now-deleted clip, however, was shared by several social media accounts as users claimed that Michael had no option but to remove the video since she fell victim to conservative moral policing in Pakistan.

“Social media backlash forced her to delete the video, highlighting cultural tensions regarding women's attire in Pakistan,” a user said on X with respect to the video. Another social media user added that her outfit has sparked “discussions on cultural representation and personal freedom.”

Who is Roma Michael?

Lahore’s Roma Michael has a Bachelor’s degree in BTech from the University of South Asia, according to Miss Grand International.

Michael has made a name for herself as a professional model and actress, working with established fashion designers and brands around the world. She has also appeared on screen in two feature films and numerous television dramas including Tu Zindagi Hai and Pyari Nimmo.

She also represented Pakistan on several international platforms, including the Cannes Fashion Week and Dubai Fashion Show.
