One Dead, 7 Injured After Passenger Bus Plunges Into Alaknanda River In Uttarakhand

A woman passenger died and several others were injured after the bus plunged into the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag on Thursday

A bus carrying 18-19 passengers plunged into the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag on Thursday, prompting rescue efforts.

One passenger died, while seven others were injured and sent to the hospital. As of now, 11 passengers are missing, according to officials. Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman said that the accident-hit vehicle is likely to be a tempo traveler.

According to the information received, this accident took place on the Badrinath National Highway. Police and the State Disaster Response Force reached the spot and are conducting rescue operations.

Two 9-year-old children are also among the injured. As per reports, preliminary investigation suggested that the bus was going uphill when the driver lost control and it fell into the river.

“One person has died and seven people injured after an 18-seater bus fell into the Alaknanda river in Gholthir of Rudraprayag district. Teams of SDRF, police and administration are present on the spot for the rescue operation," said Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
