Tensions prevailed in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district after a video went viral, featuring a man reportedly raping a cow, leading to anger among locals who vandalised and set fire to shops, vehicles, and a house, as reported by India Today.
According to the report, citing the police, the accused was detained, taken into custody, and the situation was brought under control. The flare-up began in Damjipura after Hindu organisations staged protests, expressing their outrage over the viral video.
The cow, which was allegedly raped, belonged to the accused, identified as Abu Khan. Tensions soon escalated into violence, with locals setting fire to a puncture repair shop, reportedly associated with the accused.
According to officials, as cited by the outlet, tensions spread to several other establishments as locals set fire to seven shops, four cars, four bikes, and a house.
Fire brigade teams were called in, and the flames were brought under control. Meanwhile, no injuries have been reported; however, property damages are said to have run into lakhs of rupees.
