US Vice President JD Vance is set to arrive in India on Monday for his first official visit. He will be accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — during the four-day trip.
The Vances departed from Rome’s Ciampino Airport aboard Air Force Two, which is expected to land in New Delhi around 9:30 am today. They will be officially received at the Palam Airbase at 10 am.
Security has been stepped up across Delhi ahead of the high-level visit. The US vice president is joined by senior officials from the Pentagon and the State Department for the four-day trip, which includes meetings and cultural engagements in Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.
Trump's second-in-command will be meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening and hold talks focusing on finalising a bilateral trade agreement and deepening strategic and economic ties amid escalating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra are expected to be part of the talks led by PM Modi, PTI reported.
The American Vice President will also visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple and a local handicrafts market shortly after arriving in Delhi. The family is staying at the ITC Maurya Sheraton.
The Vances will travel to Jaipur on Tuesday, April 22, and visit the historic Amer Fort and other cultural sites. Later in the day, the Vice President will address a gathering at the Rajasthan International Centre, expected to include diplomats, policy experts, and government officials. His remarks will focus on the broader trajectory of India-US ties under the Trump administration.
The following day, they will travel to Agra and visit the Taj Mahal and Shilpgram, an open-air emporium of Indian handicrafts, before returning to Jaipur later that evening.
