One jawan lost his life, while three others were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast planted by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday.
The incident happened during a search operation by a team of the District Reserve Guards (DRG) in the National Park area of the district.
According to the details, the deceased jawan was identified as Dinesh Nag.
On Sunday, security forces recovered explosives following a gunfight with Naxalites in the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh.
The development came after four Maoists, carrying a cumulative reward of Rs 19 lakh, surrendered themselves.
On a tip-off provided by one of the surrendered Naxals, security forces recovered a Maoist dump in a forested hill on Gobra road during an anti-Naxal operation in the morning, leading to the recovery of four BGL rounds, a hand grenade, 15 INSAS rounds and a magazine, 15 gelatin rods, 50 detonators, an SLR rifle magazine, and Rs 16.50 lakh in cash.
Among the four Naxals who surrendered, Deepak alias Bhima Mandavi was a Divisional Area Committee Member (DVCM), while Kailash alias Bhima Bhogam and Ranita alias Payki worked as Area Committee Members (ACMs) of the Maoist organisation.
Another Naxal was identified as Sujita alias Karam.
Mandavi carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh, while Bhogam and Payki carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each, and Karam Rs 1 lakh on her head, it was known.
In a separate incident, a police official allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself on the premises of a police station in Chhattisgarh’s Balod on Saturday.
Assistant sub-inspector Heeraman Mandavi, who was posted at Dallirajhara police station, was found hanging in his barrack in the morning, City Superintendent of Police (Dallirajhara) Chitra Verma told reporters.
Mandavi was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead.
On August 6, a policeman allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself at his official residence in Durg district, while an official of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle in Kondagaon district on August 3.
