Israel is planning to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in one of its major cities as a gesture of friendship towards India. The announcement was made by Yaniv Revach on the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj's Coronation Day.
Revach said Israel has discussed the proposal with Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed the idea and offered support. According to him, the project aims to strengthen cultural ties between India and Israel.
The diplomat said the idea came as part of efforts to deepen relations between the two countries after the visit of Narendra Modi to Jerusalem. He added that Israel wants more people in the country to learn about Shivaji Maharaj and his legacy. Revach praised Shivaji Maharaj's leadership, courage, good governance, and religious tolerance. He said the proposed statue would symbolize the growing friendship between India and Israel.
Meanwhile, Fadnavis unveiled a 20-foot bronze statue of Shivaji Maharaj at Navi Mumbai International Airport on Shivrajyabhishek Day. He said the statue would inspire people travelling through the airport.
The proposal for the statue in Israel is still at an early stage, and details such as the exact location and timeline have not yet been announced.
