In a tragic incident, an Indian student was shot dead while working at a gas station last night in Texas, United States. Chandrashekar Pole, a student at the University of North Texas and a native of Hyderabad, was shot by unidentified gunmen in Dallas.

Pole moved to the United States in 2023 for higher studies after finishing his bachelor’s in dental surgery back in Hyderabad. He had completed his master’s degree in the US six months ago and had been seeking a full-time position while working part-time at a gas station.

According to information available, Pole was shot by a person of African-American origin. He was working at a gas filling station in Delton part-time, when some assailants opened fire on him. The student’s family has sought the government’s help in bringing back their son’s body from the US.

Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA Sudhir Reddy and former Telangana Minister T Harish Rao, along with other party leaders, visited the bereaved family here and offered condolences.

“It is tragic that Chandra Shekar Pole, a Dalit student from L B Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning," said Harish Rao, urging the Telangana government to take steps to bring back his remains.

“The pain that the parents are going through, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is heart-wrenching to witness," he said. “We, on behalf of BRS, demand that the state government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible."

Earlier, an Indian-origin man from Telangana was shot dead by the cops in California’s Santa Clara, the United States. The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Mohammed Nizamuddin.

According to the details, Nizamuddin was allegedly shot dead by the police following a scuffle with his roommate on September 3. The exact details of the incident were not known. His family requested External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to help bring his son’s mortal remains back to Mahabubnagar.

The Ministry of External Affairs said it was in touch with US authorities and the family of the victim and promised all assistance in the matter.
