The sister of the Telugu woman, Nikitha Godishala, who was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend in the US has alleged that the accused made unauthorised financial transactions worth about USD 3,500 (Rs 3.16 lakh) from Nikitha’s bank account before fleeing the United States.

After returning to India, the accused, Arjun Sharma, was arrested by Interpol in Tamil Nadu on Monday, following coordination between US federal agencies and Indian authorities to track him after his departure from the country.

In her complaint to the Indian Embassy in the US, the sister, Saraswati, detailed the amount of money which was taken by Arjun in the days leading to Nikitha's murder.

She said that on December 27, Arjun requested money from both Nikitha and her. Subsequently, Nikitha, on Arjun’s behalf, asked her to help with around USD 5,000.

Saraswati said she had turned down another request from Arjun when he asked for an additional USD 1,000 without returning the USD 1,000 from the USD 4,500 he had earlier borrowed from her. The total amount Arjun thus owed to Nikitha’s family was USD 4,500 (Rs 4.05 lakh).

"I sent him USD 4,500, out of which he returned USD 3,500. I was contacted by Arjun on Jan 2nd and requested me for additional USD 1,000 to which I denied," she wrote.

On January 2, the 27-year-old Nikitha, an Indian-American data analyst based in Maryland, was reported missing on January 2 after Arjun approached the Howard County Police claiming he had last seen her on New Year’s Eve.

According to the police, the 26-year-old Arjun left for India on the same day he filed the missing complaint, raising suspicion and alerting authorities, which eventually led to his arrest in Tamil Nadu.
