As the nation marks a year of Operation Sindoor launched on this day in 2025 in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the nation remained firm in its resolve to defeat terrorism.

In the early hours of May 7 last year, India launched Operation Sindoor — a series of precision air and missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Under the operation, Indian forces struck nine terror camps across Pakistan and PoK, targeting bases linked to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba outfits. At least 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes. Hostilities ended on May 10 after military-level talks between Pakistan and India.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the armed forces had displayed “unparalleled courage, precision and resolve” during the operation, adding that it reflected India’s firm stand against terrorism and its unwavering commitment to national security.

The Prime Minister said the strikes showcased the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of the armed forces, while also highlighting growing coordination among the services and the benefits of India’s push for self-reliance in defence.

The Prime Minister said the nation salutes the armed forces for their valour and asserted that India remains steadfast in its resolve to defeat terrorism and dismantle the ecosystem enabling it.

To mark the day, the Prime Minister and several other NDA leaders changed their profile photos on social media to the Operation Sindoor logo.

Operation Sindoor was widely seen as a strong message against cross-border terrorism, with Prime Minister Modi at the time saying that India would not tolerate “nuclear blackmail” from Pakistan.

Following the operation, the Indian armed forces began strengthening combat preparedness with a renewed focus on drones, missile systems, surveillance technology and artificial intelligence-driven warfare capabilities.
