Helicopter makes emergency landing in Kedarnath after technical snag

The helicopter belonged to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, and arrived in Kedarnath to pick up a patient.

Three people had a close shave after their helicopter made an emergency landing in Kedarnath due to a technical fault. The helicopter belonged to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, and had arrived in Kedarnath to pick up a patient.

District Tourism Development Officer Rahul Chaubey said the helicopter developed a technical snag in its tail rotor. However, all occupants are reported to be safe.

The pilot of the helicopter made the emergency landing just 10 metres away from the helipad. Local officials and relief workers quickly arrived at the spot.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will conduct an investigation into the incident, Choubey told PTI.

This is the third instance of a helicopter accident during the Chardham Yatra this year.

Earlier, on May 8, six people, including the pilot of a helicopter, were killed and one injured when it crashed near Ganganani in Uttarkashi district.
