Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas on Tuesday, bringing relief from the hot and humid conditions that had persisted in the region for the last few days. The national capital has been experiencing unusually high temperatures this September.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers for the Delhi-NCR region during the day. A ‘yellow’ alert has been issued for Tuesday.
While the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 35 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, 5.4 notches above normal. Relative humidity stood at 74 per cent at 8.30 am, the IMD said.
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 114 at 8am, falling in the ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
