A group of girls were harassed by some boys on their way home from a party in Chhattisgarh's Raipur.

The incident occurred on Thursday when the girls were returning from a birthday party late at night near the city's Mahadev Ghat. The assault took a horrific turn when one of the assailants allegedly bit off a girl’s finger.

The girls, reportedly from Bilaspur and Korba, were stopped on their way back and attacked brutally.

The girls filed a complaint with the police following the incident, though the motive behind the violent act remains unknown.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The footage shows the assailants attacking the girls as they try to defend themselves.

In the video, one boy is seen harassing a girl while she attempts to resist. Shortly after, more boys join in and begin assaulting other members of the group.

Another boy is seen dragging a girl, causing her to fall, after which two more boys arrive and drag her further along the ground, the clip shows. Another boy is shown pulling a girl by her hair as she struggles to break free.

Raipur Superintendent of Police Umed Singh confirmed the incident and said that police took note of it based on the viral video.

"The assailants are yet to be identified. A case has been registered against the boys. We are investigating the matter to get details about the other party (the assailants)," the SP said.
