FASTag Annual Pass’ New Rule Every Highway Driver Must Read

Existing FASTag users don’t need a new tag; they can simply upgrade to the annual subscription.

From today, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is rolling out the FASTag Annual Pass.

Priced at Rs 3,000, this pass is exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles and offers up to 200 toll crossings or one year of unlimited convenience, whichever comes first.

The initiative is aimed at reducing long queues at toll plazas, cutting waiting times, and bringing predictable costs for commuters who often use highways.

How Does It Work?

The FASTag Annual Pass keeps the same contactless payment system you already use. Instead of topping up your account after every few trips, you pay Rs 3,000 upfront. This covers:

  • 200 toll transactions

  • Or 1 year of validity (from the date of purchase)

Once you hit either limit, the pass switches back to your regular FASTag plan.

Easy Upgrade for Existing Users

If you already have a FASTag, you don’t need a new one. Simply:

  • Visit the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MoRTH website

  • Enter your vehicle number and FASTag ID

  • Pay Rs 3,000

  • Enjoy instant activation

This quick process ensures you can switch without paperwork or delays.

What Happens After 200 Trips?

Once you reach 200 trips or your one-year period ends, the pass will automatically switch back to the standard FASTag system. If you wish to continue with the annual pass, you’ll need to manually reapply and pay Rs 3,000 again—there’s no auto-renewal.

It’s important to note that the expiry date is fixed—exactly one year from the date of purchase, regardless of when you hit 200 trips

Why Should You Get It?

For regular travellers, this pass offers:

  • Cost predictability – No more guessing toll expenses

  • Time savings – Fewer top-ups and faster passage through plazas

  • Hassle-free travel – Ideal for those commuting between cities.
