Drunk man stomps and kills 85-year-old mother in Kerala

An 85-year-old woman from Kerala was allegedly stomped to death by her drunk son. The victim was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital where she died later.

An 85-year-old woman was reportedly killed by her son while he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol in Kerala’s capital district, Thiruvananthapuram, the police said on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night, in Nedumangad area, in northeastern part of Thiruvananthapuram district, about 16-18 km from the Thiruvananthapuram City. The victim, identified as Omana, was assaulted by her son, Manikandan, who reportedly was heavily intoxicated at the time, the police said.

According to sources in the police, Manikandan stomped on her repeatedly, causing multiple fractures and several internal injuries. Omana was found in a critical condition and rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. The reason or trigger for the assault remained unclear.

The police from the nearest station at Vattappara took Manikandan into custody and registered a case of murder.

In a similar incident of assault against an elderly woman by a family member, an 88-year-old was attacked by her grandson in Kannur district. The grandson was reportedly unhappy with her living with his mother, the victim’s daughter, at their home in the Kandankali locality of Kannur district. The incident came to light when a home nurse noticed injuries on the woman, identified as Karthiyayani Amma, and filed a complaint.
